I learned something here. I’ve been scribbling away in my sketchbook with the same materials. Page after page. Here I backed myself into a corner. So I let it sit and thought about it. Then came up with a solution. What happened matters less than realizing you can figure it out. Worrying you’ll back yourself into a corner taints the whole process. You can’t go forward because you fear that moment when you’re going to ruin it. But practice has taught me otherwise. I’ve gained confidence. I’ve been coming up with exit strategies when I’m stuck. More and more. Faster and faster. Practice pays off.

I make a book cover for my journal in my last Youtube video. It released early if you are a newsletter subscriber. https://youtu.be/GtynxGWLZ7M But it’s not a sewing tutorial, it’s about creativity. I read a comment on an art video (crafting, painting? I can’t remember) but this lady wrote “When I lost my husband, crafting got me through the grief.” And it has stayed with me. That’s the power of creating. It’s joyful, it’s satisfying and it feeds the soul. It would seem it’s comforting too. When all has gone sideways, you can always make something to brighten your day. No one can take that away. Creating is so important—more than ever in an age where we’re not sure what’s real— It’s also about why it’s ok to dabble, not aim for expertise, and why you can have different interests. Yes, you can. Lots of stuff. We have enough constraints and obligations, why are we giving ourselves more? And remember, creativity has many forms, not just art. Maybe it’s cupcakes with the fancy icing and sprinkles. Maybe you make bird houses that look like small pagodas (not making this up). All links are in my bio. What are your creative pursuits? #theyrenotallwinners I did this back in November in my flowers sketchbook. It was all in chalk pastels and i liked it less than now. But yesterday I decided to go back in with some oil pastels and pencil. I like the result a bit better. This is the space to experiment. It’s OK if they’re not all winners.
🇫🇷 j’ai fait ça en novembre, tout en pastels, dans mon cahier où je dessine des fleurs. C’était loin d’être super. Hier je suis retourné avec des pastels à l’huile et des crayons de couleur. J’aime mieux ce que ça donne. C’est pas mon préféré, mais ça as grave, c’est l’endroit pour l’expérimenter. Peut pas tous être des gagnants.

Additional layer of mark making on collage papers(book pages). This with homemade stamps. They’re an organic shape, but the repetition gives it a ‘manufactured’ vibe.I’m always looking for the balance.
🇫🇷 Une autre étape sur des papiers de collage (pages de livres). Ici des étampes en forme de feuilles et fleurs que j’ai fait moi-même. La forme est plus organique, mais en même temps la répétition donne une impression plus ‘manufacturé’. Je cherche toujours cette équilibre.

Today’s scribbles. Still working in the same sketchbook with the same colours and same tools doing relatively the same thing, but always different results. It’s really like being a kid. Grab a color and do scribbly stuff.
🇫🇷 petit gribouillis du jour dans le même cahier où je travaille toujours avec les mêmes couleurs et les mêmes outils. Mais les résultats sont toujours différents. C’est vraiment comme quand on était enfant et on prenait une couleur et on faisait ce qu’on voulait sans y penser.

don’t really consider yourself a watercolour artist, if you’re an absolute beginner, this is an easy follow along, and the results are bright, beautiful flowers that pop.
But it’s also about trying something different. Not labelling ourselves and feeling we have to be just that 1 thing. We don’t have to excel. I am not going to be a watercolour artist. But I like to dabble.
🇫🇷 mon tout dernier vidéo est un petit projet simple de fleurs à l’aquarelle. Si vous êtes débutant, ou si, comme moi, vous ne vous considérez pas un artiste à l’Aquarelle, mais vous aimez bien en faire une fois de temps, en temps ceci est une façon simple de faire des belles fleurs vibrante et pleines de couleur. C’est surtout se donner la permission d’essayer quelque chose de nouveau. Pas besoin de devenir des professionnels ou de perfectionner, c’est le plaisir d’explorer.
