December 2023 Astrology
December 2023 Astrology for all signs is up on my YouTube. So are my 2024 Astrology forecasts for each sign. This month sees a lot of energy between 2 consecutive signs: Sagittarius and Capricorn, meaning between 2 consecutive houses, for all of us.
First is Mecury retrograde, beginning in Capricorn and backing up into Sagittarius. The Sun will go from Sagittarius to Capricorn, conjunct a New Moon when in Sagittarius and opposed a Full Moon in Cancer, when in Capricorn.
Mars will be in Sagittarius all month and into 2024. So we’re feeling a lot of ‘do something’ energy, possibly something new with the New Moon. Mars is making us feisty and energetic, ready to take on obstacles and people if need be, and the Sun is drawing our attention to that area of our lives, but at the same time there’s confusion and backtracking, courtesy of Mercury.
Mercury Retrograde
Mercury begins retrograding on December 13th until January 1st. But we should always take into account the shadow which begins November 25th (the same degree Mercury retrogrades back to) to the 21st of January, when Mercury is back at the same degree he was when he went retrograde.
Mercury rules ground transportation, communications and commerce. Not the time to buy a cell phone or a laptop. Same for cars, bikes and trucks. Travel can be hampered by delays and mix ups. So are our communications. Same for commerce and commercial agreements. I also tend to put all agreements or plans as they are based on communications between 2 or more individuals. A detail will be changed or someone will not agree anymore, usually because they did not understand what was meant to begin with or it was misinterpreted. Nothing is set until the cycle ends January 21st.
Mercury and Jupiter
Mercury will trine Jupiter, still on his own retrograde until December 29th. So there is potential for amplifying Mercury’s tricks. A trine in an easy flow and we don’t have to make too much effort for it to happen.
Conversely there can be more likelihood to see/review missed opportunities. It will really catch our attention. If you passed by something or passed up on an opportunity, it will surface again.
However with these 2 retrogrades it is not the time for a launch but rather exploring the idea, reviewing, conceptualizing. Any actual steps could be hampered, or eventually go backwards. Same for getting others onboard. It’s not time just yet!
So this is definitely a slow energy. Not the time to start something new but pick up something that was ignored or slowed down (Jupiter Retrograde) and keep it at the planning level, or to yourself. It’s not time to communicate it as with Mercury Retrograde there will be a change up. Ideas evolve and something new can come in by the time the Retrograde is over.
The Sun
The Sun is also moving between these 2 consecutive signs. It is in Sagittarius until the 21st of December. Then Capricorn season begins. So while Mercury is retrograding and mixing things up here, the Sun is shedding light and adding focus. If there’s a repeat, we can’t miss it! Remember the Sun lights things up for you but also makes them visible to others.
There will be a new Moon on the 12th, just before Mercury stations retrograde. While a New Moon can mark a new beginning, this is off to a slow and subtle start with the retrograde, even if the Moon conjuncts Mars just a few hours before. In Sagittarius there’s a feeling of truth seeking with this New Moon. With a boost from Mars, we definitely want to know! We want to understand how it all fits together. Sagittarius is the big picture. This is energy to find what is true. Mars in Sagittarius can be an energy that has a big ideas but falls short on the details.
Mars
Mars will also be in Sagittarius, but will remain there until the first days of January of 2024. Mars brings energy to whatever sign/house he is in, and Mars can be argumentative and ready to stand up for what he believes in. But while Mercury is retrograde, especially in Sagittarius (starting on December 23rd) we can deploy a lot of Martian energy only to see it not pan out. Or in the case of asserting ourselves, perhaps doing so based on faulty intelligence. Mars likes to go fast but this is the time to go slowly and check carefully.
Mars in Sagittarius is not one for details in general, and more so in Sagittarius who likes big ideas. Mercury is all about details, and is mixing them up. So Mars can be all gung-ho but we can discover it was wasted energy when we could have just gone slower and avoided mix ups.
Venus
Venus arrives in Scorpio on the 6th and leaving for Sagittarius on the 29th. In Scorpio, Venus can be subtle, even secretive. We sometimes even hear the words underhanded or manipulative when discussing Venus in Scorpio. There is the idea of relationships (Venus) but in secret: hidden alliances and agreements taking place undercover, or under the covers! Scorpio is what is below the surface, literally below ground (Scorpio rules gems), or beyond outwards appearances as Scorpio is a sign that explores the facets of deep emotional connection.
Romance begun with Venus in Scorpio can be dark and maybe kept hidden, or have a hidden aspect. Venus in Scorpio explores control and power, the intensity of deep ties and an aspect of secret. Hence the descriptors of manipulative, underhanded and also taboo.
Full Moon
There is a Full Moon in its home sign of Cancer on the 26th at 4 degrees. This Full Moon will briefly sextile Jupiter and trine Saturn.
As the Moon is at home in Cancer, it can be given to a lot of nurturing, coziness and attention to feelings. At the same time is can freely express its emotional palette. While it is nice to be in touch with our feelings, having all the feels over absolutely everything is the down side.
Cancer belongs to the 4th house in the natural chart: home and family. It is an angular house. We look to the 4th in the natal chart for clues to childhood, family tradition and the father figure.
The sextile to Jupiter makes emotions run high: either very good or very negative. Jupiter amplifies. Choose the cozy option for the week end!
The trine to Saturn is a nice flow and easier that a sextile. It can bring a reality check and something constructive, pragmatic in terms of nurturing and compassion. Might be a good time to think about a food bank contribution. Christmas baking for loved ones who are far away or to bring over on holidays. Maybe a treat to bring to work. I’ve worked many Christmases, and we always had some sort of potluck. Cozy! I’m sure you can think of other ideas. As a Taurus my thoughts turn to food!
