The question of querying comes down to the state of your manuscript. Is it query ready? Does it deliver a good story? Has it had a round of editing? Is the word count under 100 000?
Strive for simplicity. Writing your first novel is hard enough without throwing yourself into massive research.
This is what I did to write a book: I set out to write two pages a day. Five hundred words. My logic was that after a year, I’d be around 720 pages. I didn’t need that much but certainly I’d have a book in there somewhere.
But how is creativity created? By doing the process. First that means just showing up. You aren’t going to crank out a masterpiece every day. But it’s important to give you craft attention because even if nothing is happening on the physical plane, your mind is thinking and developing.
Creativity needs refueling. If you don’t let it, you’ll stall.
