July 2024 Astrology
The Astrology of July has a lot of simultaneous moving parts. A flowing Neptune aspect causes blur and confusion but also give us great intuition. Uranus and Mars are going to shock us into action (“I’m outta here!”) and aspects to Pluto are going to have us questioning our power, again. The sign by sign videos are up on my YouTube.
Sun
The Sun sits in Cancer until July 22nd. Just before leaving it will make a trine to Neptune from the 19th to the 22nd. This is exact on the 21st, same day as the Full Moon in Capricorn. This is going to cause blur and confusion. We may be getting a lot of intuitive insights and this is great for spiritual guidance or work, but there is also confusion and even deception. Others can deceive or Neptune can have us wearing the rose colored glasses. Things can seem to be in a dream like state and it is best to wait until the energy has passed to see what is true and what was mirage.
The Sun will then move to Leo on the 22nd and oppose Pluto from the 22nd to the 26th. This is following oppositions by Mercury and Venus and just adding to the conversation of exploring where power lies, what isn’t working and what needs to change. All part of the long Pluto in Aquarius story. The Sun brings the focus, particularly to self, within this area of the chart. Are we being able to be our authentic self? Or conforming to an authority or other power?
Moon
There is a new Moon in Cancer on the 5th. Whatever house that is in, means it is a good time to start something in that area. The Moon is at home in Cancer, so a lot of feelings and desire for security. How you are feeling about something, more than logic, will guide your choice. There is a lot of feeling our way around things, leading from the heart. For all of us this is home, family, place we live, even region and homeland.
By the 21st the Moon is full in Capricorn, opposing the Sun. Same date and sign as last month but now at the final degree, 29, of Capricorn. The Moon now highlights our area of success, status and where we want recognition. How is this balancing with our life on the homefront?
As mentioned above, the Neptune-Sun trine is exact on this day as well. Neptune also sextile the Moon. We are really proceeding intuitively and emotionally. We could see strong reactions to issues related to homeland, borders and identity, tying in governments and authorities. But also confusion, blurring of borders and identity and even deception.
Mercury and Venus
Mercury ingresses into Leo on the 2nd and Venus on the 11th. Both oppose Pluto upon their arrivals.
Mercury opposes Pluto July 2nd and 3rd. It causes us to focus intensely on one thing. Mercury usually flits around and thinks about a lot of possibilities at once. We all want our words to be powerful at this time. You’ll be intense about one particular thing.
Venus will oppose Pluto front he 11th to the 14th. Whichever house this is in, we will examine power issues through the lens of relationships. This can be work, partner, family, friends, depending on the house this is taking place in. Are you giving your power away? Is there an unofficial leader? What are the power dynamics?
This opposition can also have Venus being manipulative and engaging in power plays under the guise of charm. Watch out for others doing it (flattery will get you nowhere) and the appeal of doing that ourselves as well.
Mercury Retrograde
Mercury then is in pre-retrograde shadow starting July 17th. And moving into Virgo on the 25th. The retrograde is in August, from the 5th to 28th. It begins in Virgo but ends in Leo and is considered to be in Leo, as all Mercury retrogrades are in fire signs in 2024.
Mars
Mars conjuncts Uranus, in Taurus, from the 12th to the 19th. This is exact on the 15th. I like to call this Rebel meets Warrior. Mars conjuncted Uranus in Taurus previously in August 2022 and January 2021. Uranus is the Great Disruptor, the Rebel. Uranian energy is waaay out there and can give us incredible ideas. It’s innovation, futurism, new technology. Uranus dislikes limits, parameters that are holding us back and being stuck in a rut.
Mars is the drive and energy to follow through. Mars can even be combative. You will want to break free and won’t let anything stand in your way. Or it can be a sudden insight coming to you. An “Aha!” moment that you will act on. Do not dismiss anything as too weird or unheard of. Follow creative intuitions, explore ideas. This is the catalyst ushering in change.
Mars also relates to sex drive, and Uranus is often termed weird or wacky. So things may become peculiar or different in that domain as well.
For all of us, Taurus represents wealth, money, land in terms of the resources from land. It is a sign that relates to farmers and bankers. We can see something new in terms of cultivating food (cultured meat) or currency. Bitcoin or a universal currency, independent on one country’s currency, have often been floated as a possibility. It can be a completely different idea, yet unheard of.
A long time ago, food was a means of payment. People often paid in grain to their landlords, literally Lord of the land, or used it in trade. The commodities market is a traded market. So you can see the land resources/wealth/banking tie-in.
This marks the start of a 2 year cycle that begins again when Uranus is in Gemini, a completely different energy. So note what comes up and how this moves along as Mars moves around the chart to join up with Uranus again on July 4th, 2026.
The Retrogrades
Neptune stations retrograde on July 2nd. He joins Saturn and Pluto. Uranus and Jupiter will follow. Along with the Mercury retrograde in August and another in November, as well as a Mars retrograde in December. As we head into the fall the energy slows and it will be time fo research, prepare, test and plan. But we’ll get to that.
